Pipe bridge, STEP Oy

Pipe bridge, STEP Oy

We delivered 10 km of chemical pipelines and 1,000,000 kg of steel structures to the Harjavalta Battery Materials Factory. The largest blocks of the pipeline bridge were 46 m long and weighed nearly 100,000 pounds. This is how we carried out the significant project.

Project management

We phased and scheduled the material acquisition, manufacturing, and installation according to customer requirements. We were also able to influence how the project was implemented, which enabled us to meet the stringent scheduling requirement. Our principle was a high prefabrication rate in production, which made it possible to shorten the turnaround time for on-site installations. Producing a high prefabrication rate required us planning in the pipe bridge interfaces. Working in a factory with dry conditions and systematically designed floor plans is also much faster than on a construction site.

Block per week delivery

The project consisted of 25 pipeline bridge blocks. We prefabricated, installed, tested, and insulated the pipes into blocks under factory conditions and performed escort cabling under insulation. We carried out the deliveries on a block-by-week basis and delivered the bridge blocks to our Raisio plant.

On-site installations

Ardor carried out pipe and equipment installations for the Harjavalta Battery Materials Factory for its own project. The blocks were lifted and installed in the right places, and the interfaces of the blocks were connected. We carried out the final tests, such as the pressure test, as well as the installation and final inspection together with the customer. After the project had been approved and handed over to the customer, we presented the final documentation. We delivered the project according to the customer’s wishes and completed the project in the autumn of 2021.

This project made good use of Ardor’s project expertise and operating methods in terms of a high prefabrication rate.
